Happy National Curly Hair Day!

Ask anyone with curly hair, they’ll tell you it’s a journey. Four years ago, I went naturally curly. Before then, I was straightening my hair as far back as I was old enough to use a flat iron. When they say it’s a journey, they are too painfully right. The time and cost spent trying different products until you find the right one, the frizz, the poof, the crunch — we’ve all had some curly hair journey trauma! I can say today, on National Curly Hair Day, sometimes the best things (like naturally curly hair) are worth fighting for.

Before OLAPLEX, I never saw myself wearing my hair curly. How could I? My curl pattern was screaming damage! It was a mixture of curls, waves, and a lot of straight mid shaft to ends from years of sizzling in the flat iron (curly friends, we’ve all been there). When I first started working for OLAPLEX, I would give myself treatments while I worked from home, twice a week, sometimes more. My hair was looking faded and fried and I wanted to rebuild it, so when I straightened it again, it would look healthier. Funny logic, I know.

After months of treatments, I began noticing my curl pattern returning. With no intention of going natural, I was out by the pool with a friend, and my hair dried after swimming while we were laying out. She asked me why I straightened my hair when I had such a beautiful texture already. I hadn’t ever looked at my hair that way. I always thought it was ugly and weird. That was the first moment I ever felt confident about my curls, and I never looked back.

I had my work cut out for me, though. The journey was expensive and tedious trying different hair product recommendations. From mousses to serums, gels, and everything in between, what started as a journey has now reached a destination. I write the OLAPLEX blog because I’ve learned so much throughout the years about the product, and it genuinely changed my life. I feel grounded and so much more connected now to who I am because I can wear my hair curly.

My routine consists of shampooing and conditioning with OLAPLEX Nº.4 and Nº.5 Bond Maintenance Shampoo and Conditioner. Treating with Nº.0 and Nº.3 Intensive Bond Building Treatment along with OLAPLEX Nº.8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask. My styling routine went from an arsenal of products I didn’t love to all I need, OLAPLEX Nº.9, Nº.6, and Nº.7. Sometimes I add gel to the mix or I use more product depending on the season, but that’s as far as my routine shifts.

I hope you spend the day thanking your hair for its beauty or starting your own journey to wearing your hair naturally. You won’t regret it. Happy National Curly Hair Day! It’s never too late to love your curls!
