National Hispanic Heritage month first began in 1968 as a weeklong celebration. In 1988, the observance expanded to the month-long celebration it is today. You may wonder why it starts in the middle of the month; The 15th marks El Salvador, Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Guatemala's Independence Days. The 16th is Mexico's independence day with Chile and Belize following on the 18th and 21st.
While the nation pays tribute to Hispanic generations, we're focusing on how they've enriched the hair industry. Some of the biggest names in the hair industry are and have been Hispanic such as the late Cuban born Oribe Canales, founder of Oribe, celebrity colorist and owner of Ramirez Tran Salon in Beverly Hills, Johnny Ramirez, Latinx celebrity stylist Priscilla Valles, and OLAPLEX User Carlina Ortega of the Rita Hazan Salon in New York City. While only naming a few, it is inarguable that the hair community flourishes in part from the tenacity, ingenuity, and entrepreneurial spirit Latinx show.
At OLAPLEX, we are a diverse company with Latnix team members who have helped us grow from day one to now. Latinx occupy key roles here to keep the company thriving, such as our Social Media Manager, Blog Editor, and Copywriter, and Senior Educators. These are all positions in which we communicate with our community, also significantly comprised of Latinx. In addition to these critical roles, our team works arduously to provide accessible, free, engaging Spanish education across our social media platforms to make OLAPLEX available to our global Latinx community!
OLAPLEX is for everyone; we are proud of the positive contributions Hispanic heritage folk has given the nation and our industry. We're even more excited for a fun-filled thirty days of Hispanic Heritage Month content and resources!
